Friday FIVE!!

This is what I am playing with this week.

1:  Book on audible:  All the Single Ladies:  Unmarried women and the rise of an independent nation.  I purchased this last week and then got an invite from my friend Pat to join a book discussion group about the book for the month of August, can't wait to dive in deeper!

2:  Watching the original Mama Mia movie and the sequel.  Yes it is what it is, but it is lighthearted, happy and silly and GREECE!

3:  Working on the next group of ladies from the focus group for the WOW series and starting to pull together the question list for them all.  I can't believe that I am already into the third group!!

4:  Podcast interview contacts.  I am working on lining up several ladies to record podcast episodes, some of them have been on the Monday Muse series and this will follow up their initial interview there, some of them have yet to appear as a Muse and some are just people I want to have tell their story.  I also have several solo episodes to get recorded as well.

5: Researching new laptop options, after 9 years it is time to upgrade the hardware and give my slowly dying beast a rest.  I will be happy to have things like WiFi connections working again, a non-glitchy keyboard and mouse buttons.  Coming in August the next new toy.  Though I would love a Mac, I just cannot justify the cost at roughly 3 times the cost of a windows laptop...  Oh and a new external hard drive for all the files ever amen.

That's it for this week..  Happy weekend, get out and have some fun!

PS:  here is a little popcicle recipe to beat the dog days of summer heat

Friday FIVE!

It's that time of the week again, Friday FIVE...  Here is what caught my attention this week.

1:  Reading:  A Thousand Days in Tuscany by Marlena de Blasi.  A memoir by de Blasi who is a chef and the second book about her life, the first one, A Thousands Days in Venice.  I am so enjoying her story of Tuscany, which is one of my favorite places on earth.

2:  Summer foods:  I am eating all the berries, peaches, cherries and watermelon I can get my hands on.  I’m busy freezing some of the berries for my smoothies this winter and I have to say that I am loving my cherry pitter big time.

3:  Dreaming of:  a cute little house that I can make my own and fill with great finds.  I am working on just staying open to that happening and not setting up any sort of expectation.  With housing prices the way they are, it will take some sort of miracle for me to afford anything close to where I live , but I am believing the magic will happen.

4:  Audiobook I am loving:  Come as you are: The Surprising New Science that will transform your sex life, by Emily Nagoski, Ph. D, there is some incredible information here that the anatomy geek in me loves and some interesting things that I am learning about how we have evolved and what as women we have been bombarded with to keep us from truly enjoying our sexuality.  If you are looking for something a little more less science and more summer entertainment try this one:  The Lost Vintage by Ann Mah

5:  Watching:  Jumanji, the newish one with Duane Johnson and Jack Black.  Suggested by my new friend and I laughed my ass off through most of it.  Jack Black does an amazingly funny job with his character, I loved it.  Light hearted, funny and enjoyable.

That is it for this week.  I hope that you are enjoying your summer, I have been beach walking almost every day, soaking up the sun and enjoying the doors and windows being open.

Yes it's Friday again, this weeks FIVE!

1:  Reading:  The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.  I am reading this one again, a little slower this time.  Belonging is not the same as fitting in, in fact fitting in can keep you from true belonging.  We all need love and belonging.

2:  Quote from my functional medical specialist:  All of the men out there that can't get a date, the ones who murder others, who are so disconnected from themselves and from those around them are saying they can't connect and no one is helping them and they don't know how.  For those of us who are connected into our presence, our source, the energy around us, it is easy to misunderstand those that are so disconnected, just look at the present administration and how disconnected they are from the vast majority of the people in this country.  It is an interesting perspective and something that is really causing me to think a little deeper about what it means to be connected into being present, to seek out and connect with others and to hone those deep listening skills.

3:  Podcast:  Hannahlyze This.  Funny, interesting perspective on mental illness and challenges, funny, insightful, honest and just lays it all out there.

4:  Music:  It's summer, well sort of here in Seattle...  Reggae is the sound of summer for me, I created a reggae mix on Spotify just called reggae under my user name:  yogawithsherry.

5:  Naps, boy do I love naps and I have been trying out taking a nap on days when I don't wake up feeling like I got enough sleep.  A 20-30 minute power nap has been very effective.  Even if I don't fall all the way asleep, closing my eyes and resting helps.  Try it, you might like it!

And some grub that I have been playing around with ingredients...  Lots and lots of avocado!!

It's Friday and time for the FIVE!

1:  Quote:  Sometimes she had to be the one to remind herself that she was great enough to do extraordinary things.  j. iron word  (It doesn't have to be perfect, just get it moving forward)

2:  Audio Book:  Captivate, one time through wasn't enough, there is a lot to this book and a whole host of extras on the website they provide.

3:  On the horizon:  forming a woman's group to meet in person to talk about all the things.

4:  Podcast:  Episode 1 is in the can and will be uploaded and ready next week!

5:  in my headphones:  Reggae music for the summer vibes, even if the weather is cool and grey right now.

I'm a little late with this today, I have been busy working on getting emails and DM's out to potential Muse interviews and Podcast guests.  There are some very interesting and exciting women that will be joining the tribe.

Friday FIVE!!

1:  Quote I'm pondering:  I am learning to love the sound of my feet walking away from things not meant for me.  Unknown

2:  Words this week:  catalyst:  an agent that speeds significant change or action.       dauntless:  incapable of being intimidated or subdued.    essence:  the most significant element, quality or aspect of a thing or person.

3:  In my ears:  George Thorogood & the Destroyers, a little rock and roll to soothe what ails.

4:  Book:  The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber, All about why small businesses fail and what to do to change that.

5:  Captivated by:  My granddaughter

Here is a little tasty treat, because chocolate!

an extra from an exchange on Facebook:

Feminism doesn't mean we want to get rid of all penises, we still need and want penises. (said under the breath - some are more deserving of preservation than others).  Best comment:  especially not the tiny angry ones

Friday FIVE!!

What caught my attention this week.....

1:  In my ears:  Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown on Audible.  I am listening to this again.  I love her words and hearing her voice say them makes them even more powerful.

2:  On my mind:  Time... How to make better use of it so that I have more time for myself.

3:  Purchase:  a new comfy pair of sweat pants (aka adult pajamas)

4:  Practice:  Functional movements mixed in with my yoga practice and teaching.  Never underestimate the importance of a strong core, drawing in towards center.  It solves so many of the body aches and pains.  (new videos coming soon!)

5:  My beach:  getting back to my morning beach walks, no matter how poorly I slept the night before.  Beach report anyone?

Here's a little tidbit I'm going to try this weekend.  Cheers to the freaking weekend!

Friday FIVE!!

1:  Book I'm listening to:  Launch by Jeff Walker, all about launching a business online.  I just love audible, I know it isn't quite reading but it really does allow me to 'read' while I drive, walk, work etc

2:  What is on repeat in  my head:  Moana songs...  My granddaughter loves this movie and I do too but she will ask to watch it several times a day and then I hear the songs in my head for days afterward.

3:  Podcast I'm loving:  GoalDigger with Jenna Kutcher.  A photographer, online educator and someone who is a champion for body positivity.

4:  Watching:  The new season of Westworld.  The first show had me feeling like I was in someone else's dream that I stumbled on and trying to figure it out.

5:  Dreaming of:  Italy and wanting to plan a yoga retreat there for next spring.  I think I found the spot, now who wants to join me?

That is it for this week, except for a little granola recipe that I have been having fun with:

It's that time of the week, Friday FIVE time again!

1:  Quote I'm pondering:  Bravery:  Being in a situation that requires courage.  Boldness:  doing it willingly.  ~Makenna Johnston

2:  Book:  Loving What Is by Byron Katie, I picked this up once before and got distracted, trying to dive back in again.

3:  Surprises:  The ease of asking for help and actually getting it.  It's not easy for me to ask for help, anyone else struggle with that too?

4:  Those little fingers touching mine as she fills my palm with rocks.

5:  The thought that we are all just trying to live life the best we can, some just do it with more grace than others.  I'm always seeking more grace in my life.

That's it for this week!

Friday Five!! 4/13/18

1:  Quote:  Open your heart, fling your hopes high, set your dreams aloft.  I am here to hold your hand.  ~Maya Angelou

2:  Listening:  Chandler - The Sages & Fools, a recent release by an 18 year old singer I found on Instagram.  She plays the guitar, ukulele, keyboard and does some great covers on her Insta feed.

3:  Reading:  In my quest to learn more about time and how to be effective and productive and still have time for just me I am reading The 7 habits of highly effective people.  And diving in a little to my Anatomy Trains book which is really a textbook and a very chewy read.

4:  Watching:  Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Netflix.  Jerry Seinfeld, funny people and cool cars.

5:  Dreaming of flip flops, warm weather, walks on the beach without a jacket and lots and lots of low tides on Eagle Harbor.

I'm really ready for the weekend, I hope you have something fun planned with people you enjoy AND time for yourself to just do whatever feels good in the moment.

Friday FIVE!!

biel-morro-128512-unsplash.jpg

That's right it's that day again FRIDAY!!  Here's this weeks FIVE!!

1:  Quote:  I wish to live a life that causes my soul to dance inside my body...  The old dancer in me really likes the metaphor.  Is your soul dancing inside your body?  If not, what could you change or tweak to give it dancing shoes?

2:  Watching:  The last Fixer Upper episode aired and while I can back and re-watch the old ones, I was looking for some other inspiration.  I found the show Good Bones on HGTV.  I don't watch a lot of TV but this is a good show to watch before bed, no monsters, no killing and pretty houses to dream about.

3:  Listening:  The latest in the Robicheaux series from James Lee Burke on Audible, The Online Marketing Marketing Made Easy podcast with Amy Porterfield and the Moana soundtrack with the baby in the car.

4:  Inspiration:  My Functional Medical specialist..  She told me this week that I am proof for her that functional medicine does work.  She wonders sometimes if she is actually making a difference for some of her patients.  When she met me, my trajectory was in serious peril for my health and in just 14 months we worked together to change not just my trajectory but to start me well on the path to healthy living with minimal pharmaceutical intervention.

5:  Focus:  My ladies in my Unapologetically You Mastermind Focus group and learning more about them, their lives, their mindset, their wisdom and what is forefront on their minds right now.

And the bonus extra, we are at some point going to have warmer weather and while I love a good burger made of beef, this recipe has me curious about whether it can be as good as it looks.

Friday FIVE!

Friday FIVE is here again!!

1:  Shopping fave of the week:  It's a toss up between Target (anything and everything you need and then some!) and Ulta, the ultimate body care and cosmetics mecca.  Lordy did I get lost in there this week!!  But I found that they carry the Tart mascara that I love.  I also learned that all of Tart's mascaras are the same formula, they just use different brushes.  My eyes are so happy to have something that doesn't make them itch.

2:  La Croix water, it's my favorite.  I drink mostly water, filtered with a little chlorophyll in it in a big giant Hydro Flask with ice.  But it gets a little tasteless and boring.  I can't do sugar, soda isn't my friend but sometimes I just want a little flavor..  La Croix does the trick.  My faves are coconut and the berry.  I saw a Key Lime flavor last week which is new, but since I am still having issues with lemon and lime, this one has to wait.

3:  Watching:  The original Will and Grace.  I forgot how much I loved that show.  I know there is a new one and it is doing well, but I am starting by re-watching all of the old shows first.  It's light, short and easy to watch a couple before I hit my bed.

4:  Read:  Travel the World on $50 a day.  I need to be ready for all of the places I want to visit and lead retreats in.  And also back to my Thug Kitchen cookbook this week too.

5:  Listen:  2Pac, old Tracy Chapman, Waves by Jeremy Loops, Woman Stuff podcast.

I'm off to gather all my new gear to film yoga videos this weekend, stay tuned for all sorts of new stuff in the next few weeks on my YouTube channel and right here on the site!

Here is a yummy little smoothie recipe for you:

1 frozen banana cut in slices

1/4 cup raspberries, blackberries, blueberries

coconut water or filtered water 1/2- 1 cup depending on how thick you want it.

options:  a scoop of protein powder, some greens, chia seeds, hemp hearts, yogurt, coconut milk.

PS: if you want to listen to any of my Spotify music lists, search for:  yogawithsherry and follow me, you can view my lists, save the lists or songs etc.  It's a lot of yoga music for the most part and I am still slowly transitioning from Napster so the lists are still small at this point.
